Worth A ‘Look’: Latest Windows 11 Features Coming Soon To A PC Near You

Written by Anthony McMahon, January 2026

It might seem a little relentless, but there’s no denying the constant stream of updates from Microsoft’s Windows teams means good things for all of us. The latest to catch our eye has something in it for those who can’t see very well: Copilot-powered image descriptions in Narrator. Of course, it’s far from the only feature enhancement with some technical improvements like Copilot policy enhancements, but Image Descriptions is likely to have a prominent impact.

In a word, this is awesome. The number of people across Aotearoa who have poor eyesight may come as a surprise: Blind Low Vision, the 135-year-old organization supporting people with vision loss, has more than 15,000 customers. Globally, more than 2 billion people struggle with their eyesight.

Many of us going into middle and older age have a mere taste of how difficult life can get when your sight starts to go, and that’s not even close to facing actual blindness.

Microsoft’s enhanced focus, so to speak, on the vision-impaired is laudable, with Copilot-Powered Image Descriptions in Narrator a great application of AI that makes Windows 11 more accessible than ever. Powered by Copilot, Narrator provides detailed descriptions of images and on-screen content, creating more inclusive digital experiences. While available only to dev and Beta channels right now, that’s a win.

Copilot Group policy improvements

A second feature in this update (rather drily designated‘Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 26220.7535’) is handy because it improves administrative control of Copilot. As you’ll have noted, Copilot isn’t free and as with any technology service, it should be assigned only to those people in your organization who need it.

The new tool within the Build gives IT administrators the ability to remove the Copilot app from managed devices using a new Group Policy setting (RemoveMicrosoftCopilotApp). This gives us (and by extension, you) greater control over how and to whom, and even when, Copilot is deployed. This policy-based control means governance, security, and flexibility are firmly in hand.

Why This Matters

With Windows 10 support ended in October 2025, most migrations are complete. These updates highlight the advantages of moving to Windows 11. In addition to staying current on a supported operating system, we can all expect continual updates and the sustained introduction of features that improve accessibility, security, and manageability. And which make the PC a more pleasant experience for everyone.

At Lancom, we’re keen to help you take advantage of these advancements. Whether ensuring compliance, managing AI responsibly, or future-proofing your IT environment, we’re here to guide you every step of the way.
