Infrastructure At Scale
When a company on a mission to transform student management needed better support for its growing Amazon Web Services (AWS) estate, it looked to Lancom Technology for the necessary expertise and insight that underpins efficiency. Today, Meshed Group is accelerating the rollout of its cloud-based Student Management System (SMS) to Australian and international higher education providers, with scalable, cost-effective infrastructure capable of meeting its growing needs immediately and into a bright future.
Meshed, an Independent Software Vendor (ISV), had used AWS for over a decade but required more than standard managed services. The company sought a partner with AWS expertise and application development experience to optimize its cloud environment while allowing its team to focus on innovation.
About Meshed Group
Recognizing the challenges experienced in the management and provision of education at all levels, from TAFEs to Universities, Pramesh Khadka launched Meshed Group in 2007. The company’s unique education technology platform caters to the specific needs of each institution it supports. With its cloud-based Student Management System, Meshed has grown and flourished, expanding products and team, and today works with more than 300 educational organizations across Australia and beyond.
The Situation
“We’re focused on helping clients achieve their true potential through technology,” says Khadka, CEO and Founder. His approach to meeting client expectations is not unlike that of AWS itself. Khadka has seen firsthand the limitations of legacy systems which fail to meet the needs or ways of working of those using them. With Student Management Systems, there are two types of users: students, and faculties along with other stakeholders in the ecosystem.
“Having been a student, and then having worked as an academic, there were many gaps and shortcomings in legacy systems at that time, so I set out to create an easier to use, more flexible and capable product. Within that, Meshed Group is constantly trying to find ways to innovate and see where we can bring additional features and solutions that can add to the clients' needs."
And, he adds, “To achieve our goals, we need a robust AWS infrastructure that keeps pace with our ambitions.”
By 2025, Meshed Group was thriving, with its customer-centric SMS powering compliance-heavy institutions across Australia with its platform being used by users globally.
But rapid growth coupled with plans for new products like Meshed Admissions and other upcoming products in the pipeline and planned expansion into other geographies inevitably meant pressure on its AWS infrastructure. “We needed reliability, scalability, and a partner who could align with our vision,” Khadka explains.
The Solution
Enter Lancom Technology, an AWS Advanced Consulting Partner engaged in early 2025 to optimize Meshed’s cloud foundation, enhance scalability, and support its growth into new markets.
Khadka says Lancom Technology is a known quantity, as Meshed Group received software development consulting during a COVID-era application architecture review. “In addition to the more recent requirement for AWS optimization, we wanted a partner who understands our ISV world,” he notes. “Most providers in the managed services and infrastructure spaces don’t have direct experience of the software business, so Lancom’s capability stood out for us.”
Through the AWS engagement, Lancom has delivered services including:
- Scalable AWS Optimization: Leveraging AWS’s global infrastructure, Lancom ensured Meshed’s SMS could handle growing user volumes with high availability, preparing it for new markets.
- Proactive Management: Lancom monitored and optimized the cloud environment, enhancing security and performance, freeing Meshed to focus on application development and innovation. Lancom is also supporting Meshed in areas of ISO compliance and has recently been part of a successful ISO annual audit.
- Strategic Growth Support: Aligning with Meshed’s expansion plans, Lancom is supporting the preparation of infrastructure for new regions, tapping AWS’s presence to ensure seamless scalability.
- Engaged Partnership: Responding to Meshed’s call for deeper collaboration, Lancom adopted a proactive approach, accelerating projects and identifying optimization opportunities.
- Lancom’s ISV expertise and AWS Advanced Consulting Partner status results in flexible solutions aligned with Meshed’s dynamic needs.
The Results
Six months into the partnership, the impact is clear. “Lancom’s support has been invaluable,” Khadka says. “They’re helping us build a foundation for growth matching the work we’ve put in to create business processes and structures necessary to go from a regional player to an international software business.”
On that note, he says there are expectations from infrastructure solutions which include cost and performance optimization, and more. “Reliability and scalability are non-negotiable, and Lancom’s support provides assurance of both.”
He says proactive management lets Meshed innovate, with new products like Meshed Admissions and other solutions that are in development taking shape. “We’re looking to launch a big, bold step in the next 12 to 18 months, with potential geographical expansion and further new products."
And while the company’s infrastructure is primed for this development, he stresses the value of partnership and the availability of targeted skills. "We always take a direct interest in the infrastructure. Things change rapidly in this space, and you do want to be sure of ongoing optimization, ongoing awareness of new features and products that help enhance your own value offer. So, we actually need to worry about infrastructure to make sure it is fit for purpose."
Finally, Khadka points to cultural alignment as a factor in value creation. “Our ability to be agile and meet the needs of the market is a big part of our success. And Lancom’s can-do attitude helps keeps us agile.”
