A year after Lancom earned Amazon Web Services Advanced Consulting Partner Status, our technical director Imran Sadiq has become one of only six people in New Zealand to be named an ‘AWS Cloud Warrior’.

‘Cloud Warrior’ is the informal name given to recipients of the Amazon Web Services Partner Network (APN) APN Ambassador status. APN ambassadors are technical experts passionate about contributing their technical knowledge to the community through public speaking engagements and digital content. An APN ambassador possesses deep expertise in the AWS platform, AWS certifications and is an active employee of an APN consulting partner.

Imran explains that Cloud Warriors have demonstrated technical proficiency and are recognised for their ability to promote and communicate the AWS message both internally, to customers and broader industry.

“It’s exciting to earn this status as I have always been an advocate of AWS' value add to businesses, and have enjoyed taking businesses on the cloud adoption journey, leveraging the various technologies within the Amazon portfolio,” he says.

Imran leads Lancom's technical direction, taking time to organise and run meetups, take part in user groups, present at industry events and works closely with our customers to identify, recommend and optimise their use of cloud services.

“AWS is widely considered a cloud leader and has an enormous portfolio of solutions available for just about any business requirement. That leads to complexity – and that’s where we’re really able to add a lot of value, helping our customers gauge their requirements and then recommending the best solutions from the AWS portfolio,” he explains.

Imran notes that businesses in New Zealand and Australia are maturing their use of cloud technologies.

“Adoption in ANZ is advanced. Certainly, within our customer base, the use of cloud is close to universal; up to 90 percent or more of our customers are now hosted in the cloud with no on-premise infrastructure. With maturity, service delivery evolves somewhat; it’s no longer about migrating to the cloud. Instead, it is about consulting to customers already in the cloud, optimising, making use of the new services constantly being introduced by AWS and seeking new efficiencies.”

Imran points out that with its rapidly expanding and continually evolving ecosystem, an AWS Cloud Warrior is only so certified for one year. “That keeps us on our toes; retaining the status depends on keeping abreast of all AWS developments for the benefit of our customers and the broader market. And that’s an exciting challenge.”

We are proud that Imran has been selected for his exceptional work as a technologist and cloud consultant. Congratulations Imran!
